The Ever-Evolving Healthcare Industry

In the dynamic and ever-evolving healthcare industry, finding a supportive and growth-oriented company can be a game-changer for professionals seeking career growth and development.

Erika Maples’ remarkable journey at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center serves as a testament to the opportunities and nurturing atmosphere available within our organization.

Through her personal experiences and unwavering dedication to the healthcare industry, Erika showcases how internal growth and development can shape a fulfilling career path.

Erika’s Early Career and Ambitions

Erika Maples began her journey at Waynesboro Health and Rehab in 2012 as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) while attending nursing school.

She recognized nursing as her chosen career path, as she provided care for her great grandparents and grandpa when they were unable to care for themselves at home.

“I was seeking a place to initiate my nursing career that was near my home and in a setting where I could help people from my own community,” said Erika in an interview. “I knew that starting my career as a CNA was just the beginning, not the end.

Erika pursued her LPN education while working full-time with us. After enduring evening, weekend, and 16-hour shifts, her efforts finally paid off when she obtained her LPN License in September 2013.

Adapting to Change

“After serving as an LPN for 8 years, I experienced the loss of my husband and had to take a step back from any nursing or clinical-related responsibilities,” Erika revealed. “That was when I assumed the role of HR Manager. I genuinely enjoyed this position as it allowed me to remain in healthcare but serving in a different way.”

Later, our Administrator approached Erika and asked if she would be willing to teach a CNA class for our facility.

“Without any hesitation, I readily accepted. I desire to impart the same knowledge and compassion I received while learning to care for our community’s loved ones. If I can guide one person into healthcare and teach them how to be as passionate about our residents and facility as I am, then I would be in.”

Seizing Opportunities: Reentering the Clinical Side

Shortly after Erika agreed to teach the class, a vacancy emerged for the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) position, prompting her decision to reenter the clinical side of her nursing career.

Erika submitted her application and successfully secured the position.

Finding a Home: Erika’s Commitment to Waynesboro

When inquired about her ideal career trajectory, Erika expressed her desire to remain at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation as it has become her “home away from home.”

“I am immensely grateful to Trousdale Living Communities and our Administration for affording me the opportunity to advance in my career. Waynesboro Health and Rehab has always been and will continue to be my home!”
